Three Good Reasons To Remove A Tree That Isn't Sick, Damaged, Or Dead

Posted on: 31 May 2023

You know that trees need to be removed when they're too sick or damaged to be saved or when they're dead. But did you know there are other times when it's OK, and even necessary, to remove a tree? Trees are wonderful, and you don't want to remove them if you don't have to, but that "have to" is sometimes relative. If there is a situation where your life would improve if that tree were gone, that would be a time to call a tree care service to remove the tree.

The Care Is Driving You Nuts

You may have lucked out with most of your trees and found they were easy to care for. But if you've got a tree that is too high-maintenance and that is driving you batty, you might want to look into removing it. Sometimes all you need to do is have a tree service care for the tree instead of doing everything yourself. If that's the case, save the tree and sign a contract with the company. But if the care is truly out of control, such as a palm tree that's home to palm rats that needs constant pest control, or a very messy fruit tree that you're always cleaning up, removal can save your sanity.

It's an Invasive Species

If the tree is an invasive species, you should have it removed. Invasive species can send up sprouts and spread easily via seeds, and they can grab soil resources that other trees need. Some invasive species are tough to remove and require taking out every last bit of the root system, so don't attempt to remove the tree yourself. Get a tree removal company that knows how to get all the roots and the stump out of the ground.

You Need More Sunlight in Your Yard

Lots of old, tall trees can be a magnificent sight, but they can also block sunlight from reaching the yard or your home. That's great if they're on the west side during summer, but not so great if they surround your home and never let light in at all except at high noon. It may be possible to trim the canopies so that they let filtered light in, but removal is also an option. Just be careful which trees you remove as you don't want to go from no sunlight to very hot summer sunlight scorching your home. A tree service can help you identify the trees that should be removed.

Keeping Your Trees Healthy

About a year ago, I realized that our front trees were starting to look a little funny. Some of the leaves were wilted, but we weren't anywhere near autumn. The bark on the trunk also seemed to be rotting away, which was frustrating and disappointing. Fortunately, a friend of mine told me to call a professional arborist for help. He came out, inspected the trees, and injected some special pesticides into the trunk. Within a few months, they started to look a lot better. Our arborist also trimmed our trees to reduce the weight load on the branches and to improve their shape. Check out this blog for information about tree trimming.
